Find the Perfect Dress for Every Occasion and Body Shape

I love any excuse to get dressed up.  However I am well aware not everybody loves it and in fact can find the getting ready for an occasion such as a wedding or prom very stressful, however. finding the perfect ball gown prom dress doesn’t have to be stressful—it can actually be really fun! The key is understanding your body shape and knowing how to highlight your best features. With the right style, you’ll feel confident and beautiful for any occasion.  So below you will find some of my top tips, im by no means a style guru, however I have attended many formal events from weddings to blog awards ceremonies so hopefully you will find this helpful.

Determine Your Body Shape

First things first—let’s figure out your body shape.  It sort of going almost without saying that dressing for your body shape is almost he most critical component. Common shapes include:

  • Hourglass: You’ve got balanced bust and hips with a defined waist—lucky you!
  • Pear: Your hips are a bit wider than your bust, giving you that lovely curve.
  • Apple: You have a broader upper body with less definition at the waist.
  • Rectangle: Your bust, waist, and hips are pretty balanced, but you’re not super curvy.
  • Inverted Triangle: Your shoulders are broader than your hips.
Its also worth keeping in mind how our shape changes over do so its important to understand this too. As much as it pains me after having kids my shape leans more towards apple these days rather than hourglass!

Dresses for body shapes

So whether you are on the hunt for mother of the bride dresses, prom dresses or evening gown and prom dresses below should assist in your search for the perfect gown

  • Hourglass: Fitted styles like mermaid, trumpet, or sheath dresses show off those curves beautifully. For those braver of younger then me a bodycon can be amazing for this shape.
  • Pear: A-line or ball gowns are your best friends—they balance out your proportions. Add some sparkle or detail to the bodice to draw the eyes up.
  • Apple: Empire waist or A-line dresses are super flattering. They create a long, lean look that’s just stunning.
  • Rectangle: Look for dresses with ruching, belts, or embellishments at the waist to create curves. Ball gowns are a fab choice, too.
  • Inverted Triangle: A-line or ball gowns add balance. Stay away from overly detailed shoulders to keep it proportional. Halter necklines can also be very good to balance out proportions.
