If your loved one has not already done so, it will be up to you to select a headstone for them. It is important to work with a reputable company to find the right grave headstones to choose from. You will need to consider a variety of factors, including price, production time, delivery and installation, and, of course, the design.

There are a variety of memorial headstone shapes to choose from. Once that decision is made, you will select a design. This might include a vase, personalisation, decorative aspects, an inscription, etc. Or, you can go a completely different route and have a bespoke memorial created for them. Honouring your loved one is a complex process, and selecting a headstone for their final resting place is a good first step.

Arrange the Funeral

Arranging the funeral is generally next. If you have someone who can help you with this process, it is always beneficial to receive support and reduce the burden so you do not have to shoulder it alone. Meet with any clergy members or religious representatives your loved one would have wanted to play a part in the funeral service. The funeral directors will likely play a large part in this conversation, as well. Discuss the location of the service and the burial site, which is usually a house of worship. This is also an ideal time to talk through the structure of the funeral service.

The church representative should already have a general funeral template to help guide you in making decisions to ensure nothing is left out. This is a stressful and sad time, so it is important to work together. They will ask about scripture readings, the eulogy, and music. Some representatives will discuss flower arrangements, as well. Try to find music and scripture that captures the soul of your loved one to truly represent who they were. This can be a difficult stage in the planning process because you might wonder if you are honouring them in the right way. If they have not left any instructions regarding their funeral plans, you can only do your best, and that is enough.
