A Magical Day at Lapland Winter Park

Some places feel instantly special, the kind where everything slows the moment you arrive. Lapland Winter Park, set just outside Rovaniemi, was exactly that for us. Calm, unhurried, and quietly magical, it felt less like a day trip and more like stepping into a winter film set.  Snow-covered trees, crisp Arctic air, and a sense of space that’s hard to come by especially when travelling as a family and to the home of Santa at possibly the busiest time of the year.

So Much to Do, All in One Beautiful Place

One of the things I loved most was how much there is to do on site, without it ever feeling hectic. Everything is close by, well organised, and designed so families can enjoy it at their own pace. You purchase an area ticket which is €39 for kids 3-11 and €69 for kids 12+ and adults.  Much of the below is included there are a number of extra paid for activities which I have noted below.

  • Ice Karting

Such a highlight. Slippery, laughter-filled fun that had everyone smiling from ear to ear. Watching confidence grow lap by lap was pure joy exciting without being overwhelming. My youngest was just at the height requirements so worth bearing that in mind. That you need to be 150cm minimum. Drive time is 30 minutes which we found plenty for our kids.  This is extra not included in the area ticket.

  • Snowmobiling

Kids snowmobiling is for the younger kids heights from 110cm t0 160cm. Again something to bear in mind if close to those limits. My oldest was nearly too tall! Both really enjoyed this. I thought the staff was excellent here. I was chatting to one of the staff working at it and he said it gets busy and often books out so if this is on your radar do reserve a spot. This is extra

not included in the area ticket.

  • Tubing on the Longest Slide in Rovaniemi

This was a huge hit. Lapland Winter Park is home to the longest tubing slide in Rovaniemi, and it did not disappoint. Fast, fun, and full of laughter, it’s one of those activities that brings everyone together the kind you end up doing “just one more time”. There was a mix of inflatable tubes, mats etc and we never had much of a wait which was really good.

  • Ice skating & ice shoes

Both of the boys tried the ice skating and ice/ snow shoes.  The staff are on hand to help with helmet fitting, boot fitting and sizes etc. The staff are really good and so helpful. There was also ski’s available but we ran out of time for this.

  • Snow Play & Open Spaces

Beyond the organised activities, there’s space simply to wander, explore, and enjoy the snow. No rushing, no queues  just time to be present and totally honest this was what the kids really wanted, pulling each other around on the sledges that are around the place. Simple fun.

  • Cosy Kotas for Warming Up

After time out in the cold, the Kotas were a dream. Warm, atmospheric, and welcoming, they gave us a chance to thaw out, relax, and soak up the calm before heading back outside. We saw a couple of them around the place

  • Reindeer ride

I have to say this was my highlight. I honestly felt like I was in a movie. You can book tickets for this one on the day. This is extra not included in the area ticket.

A Buffet Lunch That Felt Like Part of the Experience

The buffet lunch was a very happy surprise. Warm, hearty, and with a great selection for both adults and children, it was exactly what we needed after a busy morning outdoors. We didn’t try it but I say they have an evening buffet too and also bar to grab a quick drink if you wanted.

A Place That Gently Invites You to Stay

As we explored, it struck me how easily you could linger longer. The on-site accommodation blends beautifully into the landscape  cosy, understated, and perfectly placed to let you wake up right in the middle of the magic. There’s something incredibly appealing about the idea of stepping outside in the morning to fresh snow and silence, with another day unfolding without ever needing to leave.

What Made It Feel So Special

Myself and my husband were chatting about our time at Lapland Winter Park and we totally agreed some of the reasons it felt so special to our family was:

  • Lapland Winter Park

    It wasn’t busy or crowded

  • It felt serene, calm, and unspoilt

  • Everything flowed naturally

  • It was magical without being overwhelming and particularly given this is a busy time for Santa’s home town!

It’s rare to find a place that balances excitement with stillness  but Lapland Winter Park manages both beautifully.

Our Top Tips for Visiting Lapland Winter Park

  • Plan a whole day: There’s so much to enjoy, and the magic is in taking your time. We arrived at opening time of 11 and left at closing!! And still could have stayed longer.

  • Hot Chocolate: Your area ticket included a hot chocolate at the buffet restaurant. Very welcome after being out all day in minus temps.
  • Book activities in advance: Ice karting, snowmobiles, and tubing were highlights, and pre-booking made everything feel relaxed and no disappointment!
  • Dress warmly and layer up:  You’ll want to stay outside longer than you expect.
  • Free bus: There is a free bus that goes from the centre of Rovaniemi, you can’t pre-book so do get there early.

A Day That Felt Like a Memory in the Making

Lapland Winter Park gave us a family day that felt gentle, joyful, and genuinely special. Not rushed. Not crowded. Just together,  wrapped up warm, laughing, and surrounded by snow and stillness.  A place that feels like a storybook… and one I know we’ll talk about for years to come. In fact I may even be planning our return visit already!!
