Kitchen Updates to Make Cooking Easier

The task of cooking should be something you look forward to doing. Many families focus on meals as a point of the day to gather and talk about one another’s day. If you find cooking to be more of a headache than a joy, we’re here to provide some suggestions on how a few changes can make cooking less stressful.

Effective Appliances

First, you can’t cook properly without appliances that assist you in the cooking process. While appliances can vary to an individual’s preference, kitchen appliances don’t need to be complicated. Place your attention on your most used items and ensure that they are functioning properly and that you are satisfied with their results.

If a few of your appliances can use an update, head to your nearest home improvement store and shop around for what best suits your needs.

Prep Space

One complaint that a majority of homeowners have who lack their ideal kitchen is space. Updating your kitchen to achieve a larger area for prep work, cooking, and the other many tasks you accomplish in the kitchen can be a game changer.

As seen in numerous El Paso houses for sale is a large kitchen island or plenty of counter space. With large amounts of area to work with, the chances of you complaining you have no room to cook will be slim to none.

Easy Access

During your time cooking, it is likely you are reaching for many objects without even realizing it. From the food and spices to the pots, pans, and cooking utensils, all of these items should be easily accessible.

Depending on your current kitchen set up, opting for a larger pantry, more effective cabinets, or a simple overhang to place all of your pans this update can be large or small but definitely well worth it.

Easy Clean Up

After everyone has enjoyed the food and the cooking has ended, it’s not unusual to dread the clean up needed afterwards. Creating a system that is simple and less dreadful is the goal. So if you find yourself washing dish after dish because your kitchen doesn’t have a dishwasher, this may be just the update you need.

However, if you find yourself preferring the wash by hand method, updating your sink station with a drying rack that has plenty of room or a sink with a larger capacity can also help lessen your stress.

Cooking may be one of your favorite hobbies, or you may value the togetherness of your family during a meal. Regardless as to why you cook, it’s important that you enjoy this process or that you can at least say it’s not the most stressful part of your day. Adapting a few of these suggestions are guaranteed to help you appreciate and look forward to the next meal you create.

Homeschooling resources we love

The current normal if you could even call it that is almost surreal. If you told me this time last year in a years time I would be working from home full time, home schooling my kids as the schools are closed and delivering my lectures all online. I probably would have either laughed or fainted or both. Covid has turned the world as we know it upside down. We have had to quickly adapt to this new world and to be honest I have to hand it to my kids they are the unsung heroes of the moment. Not a moan or groan. They are getting on with life and homeschooling. Not every day is full of enthusiasm for it but we are all doing the very best with it.

I thought it might be handy to compile our favourite home school resources and share them in a post as they have proved invaluable for us in helping our kids continue with their learning in these strange times. Back in 2018 we did a huge renovation and I insisted on a home office which was fully kitted out including a HP Deskjet 3720 printer which may have been little used up to now but not lately!! It is quite literally in every day use. One of the things I will say is bookmark a link to your reputable ink cartridge site like Cartridge Save trust me you will thank me later.  Ink has been a very much used and loved commodity in this house.  We buy the HP Ink cartridges and on average get around 300 pages per cartridge. My printer has a double sided print function which we use all the time. Its very handy to to save on paper.

Our current favourites are below, but if you do know more leave them in the comments below and I can add them later:

Twinkl

I cannot speak highly enough of this resource. We use it every day and it is suitable for the whole school ranging from pre school upwards covering the entire spectrum of  subjects.  There are many options from printable’s to power points on certain topics. There has also been themed resources such as Easter or summer packs which cover a range of activities from colouring sheets, to word searches to quizzes. I would literally be lost without it.

The Gruffalo

My little man loves the Julia Donaldson books, I think I can quote many of her books off by heart at this stage.  Particular favourites are The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.  The above link is a treasure trove of themed material so if you have a fan in your house this is a fantastic resource for printing themed worksheets. We have downloaded The Gruffalos 20th Anniversary worksheets to work on this week.

Best home improvements to add value to your home

If you’re considering moving house in the near future, you want to make your money back — and home improvements can help you achieve this. After all, data from the Office for National Statistics has predicted that those in the UK collectively spend almost £30 billion on home improvements annually. That works out at £43 million each week.

Installing a new kitchen

One thing I can say from my own renovations and much research in this area is that if you are going to improve one room think about doing the kitchen. It was once thought of as just a functional room but now it really has become the showcase of the home. Especially since the trend of open plan living has really taken off.

Look at both the price bracket of your entire home as well as the kitchen when it comes to any transformations. There’s not going to be very much value added to a house that’s valued at £170,000 if it’s fitted with a £25,000 kitchen.

If you find the right balance, installing a new kitchen can add an estimated 4.6% to the value of your property. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) echoes this statement, acknowledging that a new kitchen will make a property more appealing and can add up to four per cent to its overall value.

Installing a new bathroom

From a bespoke bathroom to an added en-suite, adding an bathroom or renovating the exisiting one can add value. Its a very oft use room in a house and certainly an important one to give consideration to.

Although this can add so much to the value of your home, you don’t have to go over the top when it comes to design — I really think when it comes to bathrooms –  keep it simple. For me, I know I had a couple of key requirements, heated towel rail, rainfall shower and generous bath. My husband actually wanted to get rid of ours!! That was one battle I was not prepared to loose.

For bathroom addition, consider getting a Sanicompact toilet because it is efficient and it saves space. With all the things you have to consider when building a new bathroom, you won’t have to worry about this particular toilet because it has its own built-in macerator, which makes it easy to connect to the wastewater network.

Investments for your loft

If your home was built before 1975 or had a headroom of a maximum 2.3 metres — this will be perfect when it comes to converting. The Nationwide Building Society estimates that a loft conversion may be able to add up to 21 per cent onto the overall value of a home, while Nationwide indicates that adding a double bedroom to your property — to which the loft can be transformed into this suitable space — can add over 10 per cent to the property’s value.

With a lot of regulations in place, you must be familiar with the process of loft conversions to ensure that you’re meeting the requirements set out. In addition an additional consideration will be how much this work cost. We did this but unfortunately with limited headroom we converted ours into a games room for the kids. While not an additional bedroom, it is a very welcome space and the kids get a huge amount of play out of the space.

Altering your garage

By adding a double bedroom to your home, you can add up to 10% to the value of your home according to Nationwide. If a loft conversion doesn’t work for your property, or you are looking for another room to convert, consider transforming a garage. There are many reputable companies such as The Smarter Garage who can assist with this. It is definitely worth getting a personal recommendation for a company who has done similar work in your area.

Garage conversions come with a lot of benefits, but losing a garage could be seen as a negative point and could drop the value of your home as garages offer good storage places if they aren’t, of course, suitable for a car or alternative you could offer a garage for rent to neighbours who are struggling to find space at their home.

Research carried out found that 90% of garages in Britain do not have a car in them — and this is a waste of space which could be used for something else. I know ours is and remains an jumble of old kids toys and equipment. Each year I vow to address this and tidy it out and make it maybe a study or a music room for the kids.  Maybe next year!!

Constructing a conservatory

The house I grew up in had the most amazing light filled conservatory.  I have so many happy memories of sitting having tea and chats with my mother in ours. They were so lucky that their back garden had such a good sun trap making for glorious morning in it. Anecdotally I have read that adding a conservatory can add from 5-10% to the value  of your home.  I do know the cost of a conservatory can vary depending on whether you go for glass or uPVC. Doing it once and doing it right is the only way to go. We love ours and 30 years later so do my parents. I think its the light and the air space but there was no compromise for us when renovating. I know I had to have one, nostalgia or not!

Changing your garden

welcome sign

Pic Credit: Pixabay

Before deciding on whether to have a conservatory or not, you must consider how much space of your garden this is going to take up. This is because a property’s outdoor space can also add substantial value.

When switching up your garden, make sure that it remains accessible and can still be enjoyed by your family. For this, consider fitting glass doors which open out into the garden and install high-quality outdoor lighting throughout the garden.

Decking is also an easy option when it comes to garden alterations and can even add up to 2% to the homes worth.

How to Plan for a Coast to Coast Move

The process of planning a coast to coast move is no easy task. There are many things that you need to take into consideration before making any decisions. However, with the right information and careful pre-planning, your move will go smoothly and be much less stressful than it would otherwise be! In this article, we’ll cover why DIY moves for coast to coast relocation are impossible, how much moving costs will likely run you, downsizing tips for when space starts running out, and what an important part packing plays in the process. We’ll also talk about hiring professional movers versus doing it yourself.

DIY Moves are Hard

When you are relocating from one coast to another, a DIY move is not an option. You need to account for things like the distance, climate zones- that can affect how much time you’ll be spending packing and unloading your belongings at both ends of the trip! One thing I cannot stress enough is to do your research from multiple sources, that could be for example asking around in the neighbourhood you want to move to, or making use of searches via search engines. For example, you could search Knoxville real estate into your preferred search engine and it will bring up a lot of useful information that can help

You also have to consider any potential obstacles along the way- like mountains or other natural features that might make travel more difficult. That’s why most people choose professional movers when doing a coast to coast move: they are insured and licensed experts who know all there is about long distance moves. They will handle everything from the start (packing) to finish (unloading). And it doesn’t matter if you’re moving across town or across the country; hiring a professional mover makes good sense for everyone involved in this type of relocation.

Moving Costs Associated with Coast to Coast Move

Coast to Coast move is indeed expensive. There are various costs associated when you are relocating from one coast to another. For example, there are storage and packing costs. And don’t forget about transportation costs for bringing your belongings to the destination coast.

Depending on the size of your move, you may need to pay for an entire truck or van.

The average coast-to-coast move cost is $14,000 in total (Source: US News). A large chunk of this price tag will be the transport costs ranging from $8000-$12,000 depending on your destination and whether you use a truck rental service.

Moving costs are difficult to predict as they fluctuate based on distance traveled and the number of items moved. In general, though, it’s safe to say that moving long distances tend to incur higher transportation expenses than short distances due primarily to the increased fuel consumption associated with driving greater distances at slower speeds.

The best way you can reduce these expenses is by looking for deals on all of these items before moving day. This may require some research, but it will be worth it when you find that perfect deal!

You should also plan to book a vehicle if you need one or hire professional movers, so they’re all set up with their truck/van well before arrival at the new location.

And finally, consider using special discounts from companies like U-Haul (including offers such as “U-Box”) which offer discounted rates during certain periods throughout the year because this could save money down the line.

Benefits of Hiring Professional Movers for Coast to Coast Move

As explained earlier, DIY is not an option when you are relocating coast to coast. Instead, while planning to move from one coast to another, it is recommended to hire professional movers to take care of all the logistics involved.

  • Professional movers offer you peace of mind – the y are experts and have been trained on packing your belongings, which will help keep them safe during transit. They also provide insurance for your items should anything happen while being transported!
  • Hiring professional helpers not only saves time but is also affordable when compared with renting a truck or moving vans that could be used just once (or twice). Moreover, most professional movers can even store your furniture while you find an apartment/ house for rent at the other end. This way, there’s no need to worry about storage space either!

Downsizing

It is very important to downsize during a long-distance relocation because you will be living without a garage and vehicle.

Start by clearing the clutter accumulated over time in your home, such as clothes you haven’t worn in years or old books you won’t read again. You should also clear out any kitchen appliances which are more than ten years old because they may no longer work properly, if at all.

And finally, it is important to get rid of anything sentimental that can only remind you of what was left behind – so think about those mementos from your childhood bedroom before packing them away!

Packing

When moving long-distance, it is very crucial to pack your items carefully to minimize damage. Packing delicate and valuable items separately from less-fragile objects is the best way of reducing risk for breakage or loss during your move, especially if you’re shipping these items across country lines.

Start by making a list of what needs to be packed, including all fragile belongings like china, hangers in clothes, closets, etc. Then pack them neatly into boxes before loading them onto shelves and filling up empty drawers with packing paper so that nothing shifts when they are moved. You can also use old sheets as soft padding between heavy furniture pieces such as TVs or bookcases – remember not to wrap anything too tight!

You must make sure everything stays dry because when you travel from one coast to another, climatic changes could lead to wet items. Pack a dehumidifier or plastic wrap in the car with you and use it immediately when your belongings arrive at their destination.

Before making any big plans, find out what’s important for each item that will be moved so you can protect them during transport. For example: if transporting books on shelves from one coast to another, make sure they are well-protected by having hardcovers wrapped in paper of some kind – this should help keep these fragile volumes intact!

Conclusion

We hope you found this post informative and helpful. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at your convenience! Thank you for reading about how to plan a coast-to-coast move from start to finish. Enjoy the journey of life as it unfolds before your eyes in these new destinations!

New Debit Card vs. Credit Card_ Which Should I Use

When you’re debating between getting a new debit card or switching to a credit card, it’s important to look at the ways they’re used, how they can benefit you, and which would be more helpful in simplifying your financial life.

Credit and debit cards look essentially the same. They both have 16-digit numbers, expiration dates, and security codes. The differences are perhaps most notable in how they function, where the payments come from, and how they’re involved in your financial well-being. Let’s take a closer look.

What’s the Difference?

Debit cards are set up so that they draw funds from a related checking account. That means, when you order a new debit card, it automatically links back to the account you want it tied to, and each time you use it, the charge subtracts the cost of the purchase directly from your checking account.

Debit cards are usually tied to checking accounts. A savings account is normally opened in order to save money, and although some financial institutions will allocate an ATM card on a savings account, they support your savings goals by not providing the means to electronically draw on the account.

Benefits of Credit Cards

Debit cards certainly have their perks, but they may not be able to offer a comparable level of protection on your account. Unlike being connected to your checking account, credit cards are tied to a line of credit that’s usually based on factors such as your credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and solvency. A line of credit often has a maximum amount “made available” for use via the credit union or financial institution. That amount is based on the account holder’s projected ability to repay the costs of their purchases on a monthly schedule.

Because of the service of extending credit, a financial institution can usually charge a fee or have a set series of requirements in order to be a cardholder. While this may sound more complicated, one of the benefits is that, based on expectation and trust that the money can be paid back, cardholders can spend more money than they have available in cash at the moment. This might be helpful, for example, if there’s a large, unexpected expense, such as the sudden need for a new washing machine or an emergency medical procedure.

Credit cards also offer better consumer protection should the card ever be stolen or hacked. There are often better warranties and fraud protection in place.

Types of Credit Cards

There are four primary types of credit card products that financial institutions offer. These categories sum up the sort of electronic lines of credit available to the everyday consumer.

Standard Credit Card

A standard credit card is just that: a standard line of credit. It’s available to you on the basis of approval and can be used for in-person or online purchases. There’s nothing frilly or fancy about it, but it does make life a lot easier, particularly for digital or over-the-phone purchases. There can be an annual fee with credit cards, and you should both check what the current prime rate is and see what your credit union can do for you with regard to the interest rates.

Rewards Cards

If you do a lot of shopping for your business, travel often, or like to dine out, there are specialty rewards cards that can build awards, travel points, or even cash back. The interest rates on these can vary, as can the annual fees, though, if you’re searching for a new credit card at the right time of year, sometimes financial institutions are able to waive the first year’s fee.

Secured Credit Card

The secured credit card is different from the two above because it actually requires a deposit (usually due upon opening) that will act as collateral for the purchases charged to the card. The issuer will hold this collateral during the use of a secured credit card.

Corporate Card

A corporate card is a type of credit card that is especially handy for businesses that need their employees to be able to operate and make purchases without running it through the company each time. These cards will normally be paid in full each month and either don’t allow balances to be carried over or simply will not carry a balance over to subsequent months because the balance is paid completely each month.

Just like any line-of-credit financial product, a credit card application will be run in conjunction with a current credit report.

Opportunities and Benefits of Debit Card Use

A primary benefit of using a debit card over a credit card is the lower cost to keep it in your wallet. Debit cards tend to have low or no fees. Cardholders also don’t have to worry about paying a bill at the end of the month, so there’s no risk of late-payment fees. Plus, because the spending capacity is limited by an account balance, debit card users can’t spend more money than they have. This completely avoids the potential for interest charges for unpaid balances. You could be charged NSF fees, though, if you use your debit card on a purchase above the amount you have in your account.

Debit cards are generally easier to obtain than credit cards. A standard debit card draws on the attached checking account. This means there are usually few, if any, extra hoops to jump through in order to get a new debit card. For example, generally speaking, when requesting a new debit card, a credit check won’t be required unless the issuing financial institution stipulates it as a prerequisite.

Prepaid debit cards are an option for customers without checking accounts or credit cards. They allow consumers to access services that call for credit or debit card use, such as paying for gasoline at the pump. All they have to do is “fill up” the card, and then they can use it to make purchases. And once again, cardholders can’t spend more money than they have.

To find out more about getting a new debit card or applying for a new credit card, ask the local experts at Rivermark Community Credit Union.

Cobalt Advisors – Getting your financial affairs in order

When people use the term “getting your financial affairs in order” it is often thought what is meant is sorting your affairs in older age or a palliative care situation but its so much more than that and people need to be thinking of it as an ongoing thing not just a one off.  This is something that comes up often and over the years of financial services experience I have gleaned some tips in this area.

General tips

Pic Credit: Pixabay

This is going to sound like I am stating the obvious but keeping your documents such as policy documents, insurance details, mortgage and loan contracts all in an easily accessible place kept together is very important.  There is nothing worse than in a total panic trying to locate a policy documents or mortgage contract or statement. Its no harm to tell somebody you trust too as you just never know the circumstances you might need to locate them in a panic and it such circumstances remaining calm can be challenging.

Perhaps its the accountant in me but I do love lists and spreadsheets! I can’t stress enough how beneficial it is to know how much a typical month or week costs in your household. For example knowing the nice to haves versus the essentials. This really helps with planning.

Another thing I often do is keep a note of when my utility contract renewal dates are.  I do spend time researching to see if there is a good deal out there for example by switching provider or by signing up again getting a loyalty discount. I have been known to haggle too! With mixed success im afraid.

Cobalt Advisors

It is always important to seek the help of experts. They are experts for a reason, they have spent likely years learning their trade and can provide more advice and guidance than google ever could!  One thing that comes up time and time again is to be careful of high interest debt.  This type of debt can generally be accessed easily but the problem being it is often very costly as a result.  The general consensus is to pay off your  high interest bearing debts first, this is highlighted too by investor.gov. By removing your most expensive forms of debt it will pay off in the long run. Companies such as Cobalt Advisors  have dedicated phone lines where you can seek advice and assistance.

The importance of taking control and maintaining control of your financial affairs can’t be stressed enough. It will enable you to have such peace of mind.  Its not always easy and it can be hard not to get stressed in the face of mounting debts however taking a deep breath and taking time to seek expert advice and guidance will certainly help.  There tends not to be a quick fix when it comes to finances but patience yields rewards and in the long run you will be happy you did it.

Using the time wisely – Study help

The world feels like a very strange place at the moment. Everything we took as the norm has been turned on its head.  Covid 19 has posed many challenges and at times for people great sadness however with all this change has come some new experiences, new opportunities and inevitably new ways of working.  One of the things that I have noticed as an educator myself is the speed at which the education world has adapted and evolved to meet the changing world. Students now can have ready access to online tutors, online articles, resources, have their work corrected online. For other students that can even take the class when it suits them. It is opening up a whole new world in terms of how we see education.  The historical rigidness of the system appears to be softening.

One such example I have come across is Oneclass.com. I am really impressed with this resource.  They have an extensive library of exam study guides, lecture notes and video tutorials created by top students which you can quickly find on their website. They state their ultimate goal on their website as to “ to deliver study resources that are immediately useful and relevant to any knowledge seeker on our platform”.  This can prove particularly useful for students close to exam times where they are feeling under pressure or stressed about a particular topic. Being able to locate additional reading or guidance can add such a huge amount of value and not to mention the fact that it can do wonders to calm the nerves.

Live streaming

One of the things that really caught my eye was the live streaming function.  Oneclass tutors are teaching live  for high school, college, and university math and chemistry, 7 days a week. This is a serious impressive product offering.  They have set live stream classes at specific times on their webpage, for example SAT, geometry etc and also the function to book one-on-one help again through their site. I note you can book a slot on line with Janine the tutor at a mutually suitable time, they are generously giving away 100,000 hours of free one-on-one tutoring during the Covid closures. Its is very impressive and a fantastic gesture at a time of stress for students with colleges closed. Previous live streams are also stored on their site if you do wish to revisit them at your leisure.

Its really such a testament to how fast the world is moving and how we are adapting all the time, Oneclass are really at the forefront of this and I can see why it is so popular.

Saxon Associates – High interest credit card? Some tips

money

Pic Credit: Pixabay

Its a very strange times we are slowly getting accustomed to. Life doesn’t feel like it will be the same for a very long time. The kids miss their friends, their sports and giving their grandparents a hug. In the wider economy things have changed too, unemployment is so high, many businesses have changed/ adapted or closed altogether. People are feeling it financially, it bound to impact. However, it is also import to thing long term. As tempting as it may be to opt for high interest credit cards to fund short term cash issue, it is important to consider the impact of this. According to debt.org the average  credit card holder in the USA has at least four cards. On average, each household with a credit card carries $8,398 in credit card debt. Total U.S. consumer debt is at $13.86 trillion.

These figures are staggering and in times like this is is so important to be cognisant of the future impact of it. In the event they you have found yourself in a situation where you are serving high interest debt I have compiled some tips to assist you in addressing this.

  • I think at the outset you need to consider seeking the advice of a professional using an company such as Saxton Associates
  • If you have savings in cash consider using some of this cash to pay off the debt
  • Consider if switching cards could help. Some providers often run offers such as zero interest on transfers for a period of a number of months
  • Budgeting – I know lots of people hate the idea of sitting down to analyze their spending but it does work. Small changes can have a very big impact. For example buying generic branded products, taking your lunch to work

    coffee and notebook

    Pic Credit: Pixabay

  • What I do each year is keep a list of all my utility providers and when each years contract is up I ring around to get the best deal. Some have discount for ebills, other for lesser usage etc. Do your homework it can really pay dividends over the space of a couple of months
  • Plan, plan and plan some more. For example if its a holiday or a new car you are aiming for. Work out how much you  would need to save each month to achieve that goal. I know a lot of people have laughed at me when I suggest the money jar! I love this and make great use out of it. We put all our loose change in it and then prior to our holiday cash it in. We have had some lovely surprises over the years when it was counted and much more was in it than we anticipated.

Knowing the above re the average credit card debt. I was interested to see what the flip side of this was like. I saw a cnbc.com survey on this from 2018 which suggestions that the median amount of saving that the average American household has is in the region of $11,000. The thing about stat’s is that that they can hide a multitude. In fact millions of households could save little of nothing while at the opposite side of the spectrum the rich and famous may be saving plenty.

The important thing is not to neglect your financial health.

The Canary Islands that everyone is talking about

Its a strange new world that we are day by day getting used to. My kids have been travelling since they were months old.  They are very lucky despite being so young to have seen so much of the world.  However it has been very hard for them to process this world where they cant see their friends or hug their grandparents. It such a huge departure from the free range life they lead. One of the things we have been doing as part of our home schooling is making an effort to learn more about the countries we are hoping to visit in the future. This week prompted by a very interesting press release we turned our attention to the Canary Islands. I was very interested to see the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa or, the “Covid-19 free” islands, are leading Spain’s de-escalation from the Covid-19 lockdown.

With my interest well and really grabbed, I wanted to delve deeper into these three islands……..

La Gomera – The Magical Island

La Gomera was awarded UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve status in 2011 thanks to the pristine nature of its marine and terrestrial ecosystems. La Gomera is known as the most magical of the Canary Islands and is home to species that cannot be found anywhere else. It’s also renowned as a hiker’s heaven! The islands highest peak is found in Garajonay National Park – UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The park is covered in low-lying fog which creates a perfect microclimate for one of Europe’s last remaining cloud forests. This green paradise stands at the heart of La Gomera’s 650km network of beautiful walking trails.

Situated just 40 minutes by ferry from the southern coast of Tenerife, La Gomera is home to a perfect combination of lush green forests, black lava palm-studded beaches, ancient forests and banana plantations. Its capital, San Sebastián, is full of history and is famous for being Christopher Columbus’ last port of call on his voyage to America.

One of the most captivating features of La Gomera is the Silbo Gomero, its unique whistling language. Recognised as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Humanity, this pre-Hispanic language has been used on the island since ancient times to communicate over long distances.

El Hierro – The Sustainable Island

El Hierro aims to become the first island in the world that will be 100% sustainable within the next four to eight years. For now, El Hierro, the westernmost island of the Canaries has already set a world record. In Summer 2019, the island reached the milestone of covering the entire population’s energy needs for 24 days using only renewable energy.

El Hierro is the second smallest island of the Canaries and is world famous for its spectacular underwater scenery and wildlife. La Restinga Marine Reserve is an international acclaimed diving sanctuary frequented by numerous animal species. The volcanic eruptions that took place between 2011 and 2012 led to a regeneration of the seabed that gave rise to a very interesting biodiversity. El Hierro boasts the best diving area in the Canary Islands, where you could find dolphins, turtles, stingrays, barracudas, peaceful white sharks and more.

Best Tourist Spots in St. John

St. John, the capital of Newfoundland, is set on the hillsides overlooking one of the finest natural harbors globally. This setting is breathtaking and embraces its harbor closely, so shops arrive and depart in the very heart of its residential and commercial center. One of the oldest cities, St. John, has been a base for fishing boats since the 1500s.

Most of the tourist spots on St. John stem from the city’s interesting and long history, but several of the best attractions will bring you closer to wildlife and nature. Its massive shoreline is ideal for harboring different sea birds species and animals. Below are the best tourist spots in St. John.

The Signal Hill National Historic Site and Cabot Tower

One of St. John’s top places to visit is the Signal Hill National Historic site, overlooking the harbor’s entrance. It gives a 360-degree view encompassing the sea, harbor, and city. You can also explore and learn more about the ruins of the Queen’s Battery, designed in the 1700s.

To crown the hill, Cabot Tower was started in 1898 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s voyage. You’ll find the Guglielmo Marconi and the first transatlantic wireless broadcast. At this tower, Marconi received the first-ever transmission from England in 1901.

During the summer, the Signal Hill Tatoo recreates military drills from the 1800s, with cannons, musket fire, and marching bands to commemorate the last battle fought in 1762.

This commemoration is normally performed for four days per week and is one of the popular attractions for families visiting St. John.

Basilica of St. John the Baptist

The Roman Catholic basilica is one of the city’s most architecturally crucial buildings. Built between 1842 and 1892, it signifies a Latin cross with slender twin towers towering 46 meters. Its most significant features are the appealing ornate gold-leaf ceiling and amazing statues.

In one of the transepts is the statue of Our Lady Fatima, a gift from Portuguese sailors who survived being shipwrecked. The Basilica is a National Historic Site
