Prepping Yourself and Your Home for Baby

Many congratulations on your pregnancy. You are probably already getting prepared or keeping busy seeing friends and family and figuring out what you need to do.

Fret not as this article aims to give you some ideas on what you need to do before the baby’s arrival to be prepared for the big day. If you want some guidance on your prep work, read on.

Your home

First things first, the prep work for your home will be different for everyone. If you are having a whole room dedicated to your baby, then there will be more things to prep than if you keep their bed near you.

Creating your baby their own room means they can grow up with the space. However, that initial prep can be crucial. Make yourself a list of the necessary bits and pieces, the cost of items (just so you can track spending) and anything else like décor and toys. Having a list means, you can tick things off and avoid doubles or missing items.

If the baby will be staying in your room for a time, then prepping them a future bedroom can be a much slower and calmer process.

Things you will need include:

  • A crib/basket and appropriate bedding
  • Changing table and supplies
  • Clothes and vests
  • Clothes specifically for baby
  • Nappies, wipes, baby power and other changing supplies
  • Paint and decorating supplies (if you are creating a whole baby room)

Do not be afraid to accept hand-me-downs or second-hand items either. Serviceable second-hand items can reduce cost, meaning you might have more budget for other fun items.

Birth Plan

Your birth plan can be as long or as short as you like. You don’t even need to create one if you would prefer, but if you choose to make a plan here are some things you might want to include…

  • Contacts: emergency contacts, your doctor’s info, and details for your midwife. Whoever you want on there, note it down.
  • Placenta – do you want to do anything with your placenta? Are you privately storing it? Donating it? Keeping it for encapsulation or burial? Keep notes of your plan somewhere, even if you have told your care team verbally, just in case.
  • Environment – easier to create the perfect environment with a home birth but you can create a low-stress birthing experience if you have things in your birth plan like wanting a birth pool, yoga ball, music, or anything like that.

Be aware should circumstances change so be completely married to your plan and prepare for needing to be flexible.

Planning ahead

If you want to get really prepared, you can do some serious forward planning. For example, you can begin baby-proofing your home early to save time later. Your newborn will not be crawling around and bumping into things for a little while but if you fancy it, kneeling to crawl around your house can reveal some unexpected hazards that you can sort well in advance.

For you and the household, you can prep healthy freezer meals or learn some healthy speed recipes and snacks. While you’re juggling your time taking care of the baby and the everyday running of your home you will be thankful for the convenience.

You

You can prep the house, arm your birth partner with your birth plan and get all your family around you, but are you ready? You can arm yourself with all the technical knowledge, parenting books and doctors’ appointments, which is important to do of course, but make sure you take time to enjoy your pregnancy and mentally prepare for your journey into parenthood.

You are growing a small human after all, and sooner than you think that little human will be in your arms. Look after yourself and ensure you aren’t all work and planning but have a little time for yourself here and there.

Once again, many congratulations and best of luck with everything. You’re going to do great.

How To Ensure You’re Safe Behind The Wheel

When it comes to driving on the road you have to make sure that you’re keeping safe the entire time. If you are responsible when driving, you could cause all kinds of problems for yourself and lots of others. While some see driving as a pastime or a passion, it’s not a game and it’s something that you should take very seriously, of course.

Even the smallest mistake and the lightest lapse in concentration can change someone’s life forever. So, with that said, you really do have to stay switched on the entire time. A lot of people know this after they have passed the exam, but they still continue to be negligent and complacent. Here are a few things you can do to ensure that you are safe when behind the wheel.

Don’t Do Anything Silly In Order To Show Off

This isn’t something that everybody does but it’s certainly something that lots of people tend to do – especially after they’ve just passed the exam and are free to do whatever they wish. If you are a responsible parent in a family car, then the chances are you’re not going to be making these kinds of judgments. If you are prone to these kinds of mistakes, do your best to think before you make these kinds of moves.

Assume Everyone Else Is A Hazard

It’s a very negative mindset to have, but one that would save lives and cause a lot less damage in the long term. If you assume everybody on the road is going to call the problem, then you’ll likely prevent all kinds of problems from happening in reality. You don’t need to be completely vigilant and scared, but just keep certain things in mind.

Keep The Car In The Right Condition Always

If you’re driving a car that has very few floors, you’re not going to get into as many problems. However, if the car is a little broken you could find yourself with plenty of issues on the road. Make sure the car is good to go and that it won’t cause you or anyone else life-threatening issues. Getting an alloy wheel refurb or a new windscreen could save a lot of money and a lot of heartache. Don’t ignore these kinds of things as they really could make a huge difference.

Don’t Drive When Unwell Or Mentally Unprepared

There are times when it’s ok to not drive. For instance, when somebody is pressuring you to drive somewhere that you’re not comfortable with – it’s ok to say no and let them find another way. You will have to be at 100% when behind the wheel.

Plan Out Routes You Aren’t Aware Of Or Comfortable With

If you don’t know where you are going, then it’s wise to make sure that you’re planning the route. Nobody begins planning a road trip while guessing where they are going to end up. Having that clarity in your mind allows you to feel a lot more comfortable when you’re on the road.

7 Benefits Of Having A Dating Coach In Your Relationship

If you’re looking for a long-term relationship in an age of online dating, hookup culture, and “keeping things casual,” it can be a bit hard to find your way around the dating scene. Even though some dating apps focus more on bringing together people who want a serious relationship, finding the right person can still be hard.

Due to these problems, relationship coaches are becoming more and more popular these days for good reason! Here are some benefits you might anticipate if you’re unsure whether spending money on a dating coach is a good idea.

What is a Dating coach?

A dating coach is someone who guides you through the dating world. They can help you with everything from making your dating profile to flirting and talking to people. A relationship coach can help your search for the person you want to be with. A dating coach can help if you’re tired of getting the wrong kind of attention from potential dates or if you’re not getting any attention at all. They will show you how to make a good impression online such as on VivaStreet and in person.

Many dating coaches have worked in the field for years and are experts. They can explain the dating process and give you advice on how to be successful at it. If you are having trouble dating, a dating coach can be a great way to get better at it.

Things to Consider When Looking for a Dating Coach

With plenty of dating coaches out there, how do you pick the right one? Here’s what to consider:

1. Relationship coaching experience

The best dating coaches have a lot of experience in the field. This means they’ve made all the mistakes you’re afraid of making, so you don’t have to. They can also share stories of dates that went well with you and advise you on how to steer clear of the blunders they made when they were younger.

2. Know what’s going on with you

Your situation is different from anyone else’s, so it’s important to find a coach who can help you. For example, if you just got divorced, you’ll need someone who is going through or has been through the same thing and can understand what you’re going through.

3. Shouldn’t judge people

A good coach will accept you for who you are and won’t try to change you into someone else. They should also have an open mind and be willing to talk about anything, from their wildest dreams to their biggest fears, without making you feel bad.

4. You should feel at ease with them

If you feel uncomfortable or pressured by your coach in any way, they’re not the right fit for you. A good coach will put you at ease and create a space where you feel safe talking about anything, no matter how embarrassing.

5. Should be helpful and truthful

A good dating coach will help you reach your goals and cheer you on as you do. If your coach just tells what you want to hear and never what you need to hear, you’ll have a problem. A good coach will tell you the truth, even if that means sometimes being tough on you.

Benefits of Having a Dating Coach on Your Side

Stay on track

hen you collaborate with a dating coach, you are not working with a guru or executive assistant who is always available. Kik provides a convenient platform for real-time communication, allowing you to engage with your dating coach when it best fits your schedule. This personalized connection helps you make meaningful progress in your dating journey.

A dating coach will help you keep track of all your dating goals and keep them in order. This will guide you to achieve your goals much more quickly.

Figure out when to get out of dating

A dating coach can guide you figure out what you want in a relationship. They will ask you about your past relationships, your hope for the future, and what you want in a partner.

With their help, you can figure out what you’re looking for and avoid wasting time on dates with people who aren’t right for you.

Feel better about yourself

Dating coaches know how to help people feel better about themselves. If you’re shy or worried about getting back into dating, a coach can help you get the courage you need.

They will tell you how to start a conversation, how to flirt well, and how to handle being turned down.

Know how to get the attention you want

A dating coach can help if you’re tired of getting the wrong kind of attention from potential dates or if you’re not getting any attention at all. They will show you how to make a good impression online and in person.

You’ll learn how to make an interesting profile showing who you are and what you like. You’ll also find out what kinds of photos get the most attention.

Learn how to talk to potential partners in a good way

When dating, one of the biggest mistakes people make is not talking to their possible partners well enough. A coach can give you insights on how you figure out how to say what you want without appearing needy or clingy.

They will improve your conversation skills by teaching you how to set limits, discuss your needs and wants, and how much (or how little) information to share on dates. By learning these ways to talk to people, you’ll be able to make your relationships healthier and more satisfying.

Learn how to handle being turned down in a good way

Rejection is an inevitable aspect of the dating process. Nobody will ever want to go on a date with us, no matter how awesome we are, and that’s fine. A good coach will teach you how to deal with rejection healthily, so you don’t take it too personally or let it get you down too much.

They’ll also show you how to use rejections to grow and improve yourself so that you can find someone who really likes you in the end, even if you get turned down.

A dating coach can look at your love life from the outside

If you’re having trouble meeting people or going on dates that go well, it could be because you’ve developed some bad dating habits that you might not even be aware of.

A good coach can look at your love live from the outside, so you can see these patterns and start making changes for the better.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, it’s up to you and your partner to maintain a healthy relationship. However, if you find things are going a little too far off course or don’t know where to start, having a dating coach on your side can be incredibly beneficial.

How to Raise a Compassionate Child

child playing football

Pic Credit: Pixabay

Just as independence, resilience and hard work are important to teach children, so is compassion. The way that you treat others and the energy that you give off affects the energy that you receive back. It’s also a vital social skill. We’re human and it’s likely that your child will see others like their friends and family whilst they are feeling down which is where knowing how to offer support can help. Here are some tips from a group of childcare professionals on how to raise a compassionate child.

Think About Others and Consider Their Feelings

While feelings are complicated, there are typical tell-tale signs that can help you to work out how others are feeling. You can help your child in recognising these and encourage them to consider how those around them feel.

Think About the Example You Set

Your child is your mirror image. Children look up to their parents as role models and pick up the behaviour that they display. If you’re unkind to those around you, it’s likely that your child will learn to do the same. To be a compassionate role model there are a few things that you can do:

  • Offer Support

When you see a friend or family member having a hard time, you can offer support. Whether you’re able to help them or not, you can comfort them by just being there.

  • Ask Others About How They’re Doing

It doesn’t take much to show compassion. It can be done by something as simple as asking someone about their day and how they’re doing.

  • Random Acts of Kindness

Small gestures like offering to take an elderly neighbour’s bags in or picking something up off the floor for someone else are also ways of kindness without necessarily doing much.

  • Smile

Smiling is another. Smiles are contagious. They cost you nothing and are an easy way that you can make someone else smile and feel better.

The Benefits of Coding Lessons for Children

child coding

Pic Credit: Pixabay

Since 2014, the national curriculum has changed. IT now includes lessons on coding to help children prepare for the future and the changing needs of the labour market. With the digital revolution taking place, it is expected that 75% of job opportunities in the future will involve some level of advanced digital skills.

This post is in collaboration with a prep school in Oxfordshire.

Coding Can Be Fun

Coding is fun for a lot of people. Those that like experimenting, problem solving and trying new things will really come into their element when coding. However, it can be frustrating for others. It means trial and error which can test their patience.

Practicing Patience

That can also be a good thing. Life has never been easier thanks to smartphones and the internet. Everything is just one or two searches away. Patience is a great virtue to have. To help children to build resilience and how to remain calm. Coding is a nice exercise to practice.

Job Security and Prospects

As we know, having digital skills can help children in preparation for the future. It can protect them by offering job security when industries change and evolve. It can also increase their earning potential as coding-related roles earn £47,500 on average.

Everyday Applications

Almost everything around us uses code. Whether that’s a streetlamp or a car entertainment system, it’s all programmed. Learning about code can help children to develop a greater understanding and appreciation for the technology that they come across in their day to day and give them the capability to work with it.

5 Signs Your Child is Unhappy at School

Pic Credit: Pixabay

If your child doesn’t quite seem like themselves and is pulling away from school, it might be a sign that they’re unhappy. Childhood is a difficult time and there are lots of things that children are affected by, from peer pressure to change. If you recognise that something is wrong, it’s important that you talk to them so that you can put measures in place and make it a more enjoyable time. It’s where they spend most of their time and is vital for them to do well and succeed. You may also find that their teacher can help. They may be able to shed light on what they’ve gathered from observations in class and give suggestions as to how you can help. Below are 5 additional signs from a private school in Battersea to look out for.

Their Performance Has Dipped

If your child hasn’t been doing so well over the past few weeks on their homework or classwork, it may be a sign that something’s wrong. It’s also more than possible that everything’s fine and that it’s just a weak area of theirs that they need to spend a little more time on.

Seeming Withdrawn

If they don’t seem like themselves and aren’t engaging in conversations as they used to, it may indicate that they’re unhappy.

Poor Attendance

Attendance is a big indicator. If your child’s refusing to go to school and they’re not ill or as ill as they say they are, it could also be a sign.

They’re Disruptive in Class

If your child’s usually fairly well-behaved and all of the sudden you have had an influx of calls from school about their behaviour, it may be them acting out as something’s wrong.

They’re Not as Excited as They Were Before

Their general motivation towards school may have changed. They may seem less enthusiastic about going to school and meeting their friends.

What Are UK SAT Exams?

If you have a child that’s in year 2, you will have probably heard of SATs. The acronym is short for “Standardised Assessment Tests” which take place in both years 2 and 6 of primary school to assess academic progress. This is also useful information for schools to collect as it allows them to see how well they are doing from a teaching point of view.

Key Stage 1 SATs

laptop

Pic Credit: Pixabay

Children are tested on Maths and English (reading and SPAG) at key stage one and it’s really just a way of seeing whether they are on track for their age. They are not nationally recorded or used externally.

Key Stage 2 SATs

Another set of SATs are completed at the end of key stage 2 (in year 6). They are the first formal exams that children have where they are externally marked, and they are completed in accordance with an exam timetable. Unlike the ones before, there’s more that they are tested on. As well as reading and SPAG, children are tested on comprehension in English. Mathematical reasoning is also tested in maths.

Depending on the school that your child goes to, they may need to complete further SATs. These take place between years 2 and 6 in years 3,4 and 5. They are unofficial and used by schools to closely monitor the progress that their students have made year on year.

How Are Results Given?

For those that are externally marked and recognised (Year 6 SATs), they are given 3 types of scores. A raw score, scaled score and expected standard. Below is a breakdown of what each really is.

Raw score – The raw number of marks received.

Scaled score – A score that has been converted to determine year-on-year progress.

Expected standard – The national standard / expected level of progress.

What to Ask and Inspect Before Choosing an Caregiver

What To Ask And Inspect Before Choosing A Caregiver

Are you on the journey to find the perfect caregiver for your loved ones? Selecting the right caregiver can be a crucial decision that significantly impacts your family’s well-being. That is why, before hiring a caregiver, it’s imperative to ask the right questions and conduct thorough inspections. This process ensures that you make the best choice, one that guarantees the safety, comfort, and happiness of your elderly.

That said, in this article, we will guide you through the essential steps to take when choosing a caretaker. Following these steps, you can make an informed decision that will result in the best care for your loved ones.

So, let’s get started!

Why It Matters

Whether you are selecting a caregiver through the consumer directed Services network or visiting a local caregiver center, choosing a qualified caregiver is crucial because it can make a big difference in your loved one’s quality of life.

A good caretaker can provide companionship, support, and assistance with daily tasks, which can help your loved one maintain their independence and dignity. They can also help to identify and address any potential health problems early on. Therefore, the decision to hire a caretaker is significant, but it’s equally important to ensure you choose the right one.

To make this critical decision, here are some crucial questions you should ask during the evaluation process.

Evaluating the Caregiver

When seeking the right caretaker for a loved one, having a comprehensive set of questions can make a vast difference in the decision-making process. These inquiries are not just about gathering factual information but also help you know the caregiver’s knowledge, experience, and commitment to their profession. Many will include testimonials on their website, so a good place to start would be to search your preferred area and a term such as “philadelphia home care agency” which would give you a good starting point as to what is available in your area.

So, don’t hesitate to verify the information.

Experience and Qualifications

When selecting a caregiver, one must inquire about their experience and qualifications. This ensures that the caretaker has the necessary skills and knowledge to provide the best possible care for your loved one.

To ensure, you can ask for references from previous employers and inquire about the caregiver’s training and certification. Additionally, check if they can handle the elderly with specific medical conditions, such as malnutrition and dehydration. In that case, it may be helpful to consult with an elderly dehydration lawyer to understand the legal aspects and things you need to check when hiring a caregiver. By taking these necessary steps, you can have peace of mind knowing you have made an informed decision in selecting a qualified caregiver for your loved one.

Interpersonal Skills

Evaluating interpersonal skills is crucial when hiring, as this person will closely interact with your loved one. So, check how they communicate and if they possess the patience, empathy, and understanding necessary for providing compassionate care. Observe their listening skills and how they respond to the needs and preferences of the elderly.

A good caretaker should be approachable, respectful, and able to build a positive relationship with the person in their care. They should also be able to work effectively with other family members and healthcare professionals involved in the person’s care.

Emergency Preparedness

When hiring a caretaker, it’s essential to evaluate their emergency preparedness to ensure the safety and well-being of your loved one. Ask about their training and experience in dealing with medical emergencies, and verify that they are certified in first aid and CPR. Inquire about their familiarity with emergency protocols, such as who to contact in an emergency and the nearest medical facilities.

It is also important to discuss and establish a clear plan for emergencies, including specific steps the caregiver should take and important information they should know, such as medical history, allergies, and current medications.

By thoroughly assessing the caregiver’s emergency preparedness, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved one is in capable and competent hands.

Compatibility

Compatibility is a crucial factor to consider when hiring them. It involves assessing how well the caregiver’s personality, values, and communication style match with your loved one’s.

A compatible caregiver is likely to form a positive relationship with the elderly, which can significantly impact the quality of care and the overall caregiving experience.

To evaluate compatibility, observe the interactions between the caretaker and your loved one during the initial meeting. Pay attention to their communication, level of comfort, and ease around each other. Additionally, ask about their approach to caregiving and see if it aligns with your loved one’s preferences and needs.

Conclusion

Your loved ones deserve the best care, and by taking these crucial steps, you can make that a reality. So, consider your options carefully, ask the right questions, and conduct thorough inspections when selecting a caregiver.

Your diligent approach will ensure that your elderly family member receives the exceptional care and support they deserve.

How Bad Credit Can Affect Your Daily Life

Until four years ago, I thought my identification was limited to my name and address, and to a certain extent my education or job. That was before I landed myself in a bit of a pickle as a result of job loss and the current economic conditions. Debt is tough, but it made me realise who my real friends are.

The UK can have debt amounting to £2.77 trillion, but I, just one simple girl, cannot owe £89,000 and a few default payments without getting hounded by debt settlement agents and red notices. Not to mention being ostracised by everyone around me.

Today, I am debt-free and the journey has been nothing short of an adventure, but my experience can prove to be an example for others who are in the same boat as I was. From a credit score of 320 on Equifax to now, completely debt free, this is my story…

I Was Almost Homeless

I had company-appointed accommodation in London and when I lost my job in 2020, I was rendered homeless. Renting isn’t easy when you are broke, jobless and have a bad credit score. Like many others, I didn’t know that. Property owners usually conduct a background check to see if you are the ideal tenant or not. Apparently it doesn’t matter if you can pay the deposit or the rent as failing the background check, which involves a look at your credit history, means you can be denied rent.

After staying on a friend’s couch for a few weeks, I moved back to my old bedroom in my parent’s house.

My Mental Health Was Low

It is not easy dealing with debt. At 29, I didn’t want to ask my parents for money, nor did I want to spend my days in pyjamas and sleeping in my childhood bedroom. Frustratingly I was stuck with no choice but to do all of the above. Why? Because I made some bad financial decisions and inflation is unforgiving.

I refused to come down for meals, go to Church on Sunday or even take calls from friends – social isolation felt like a “safe” cocoon. Applying for jobs and taking calls from credit card companies added to my stress and anxiety, leading to insomnia. All of these factors aggravated my mental health and as a result, my physical health tanked too.

Insurance Premium Skyrocketed Without Any Claims

My car was lying in the garage and yet, when it was time for my insurance renewal, my premium had skyrocketed. I’m not a bad driver, I was just a car owner with a bad credit history. This made me a risky customer, especially since I wanted to pay my car insurance premium on a monthly basis. The interest on the instalments was extremely high, even more so than my elderly father’s.

I Was Paying More Interest For My Loans

My ordeal didn’t end with the repayment of dues and debt settlement. Being on the verge of bankruptcy can lead to significant damage for the many years following.

When I finally managed to land a job (more on that in the next section), I had to move to London once again. With just a few hundred quid in my bank account, I had to resort to payday loans to pay for my expenses until my next paycheck. Finding a lender that was offering a moderate APR was yet another challenge. I looked through multiple bad credit payday loan providers to find the best rate and thankfully found one that suited me. Luckily I’ve learnt from previous mistakes and no longer borrow from the first lender that I come across.

I Was Denied Jobs, But Not Because of My Qualifications

When interviewing for jobs, I was often denied an offer letter because they discovered I was financially insolvent and had a bad credit history. You would think having the right qualifications, experience and communication skills were enough to get hired.

While I was angry initially, I came to realise that this was a legitimate concern for my potential employer. Someone who is in debt might get tempted to act immorally, take a bribe, pocket money from the cash drawer or sell company secrets.

Wrapping Up

Like everything else in life, debt and bad credit scores pass. You just need to be mindful of your spending habits and take proactive measures to build your credit score back. To this, you can spend on your credit card to pay for your daily needs and then pay it all back by the end of the month. This will prevent you from acquiring interest and fines while improving your credit score.

Thankfully, my relationship with money has undergone a massive change since. I treat my income with utmost respect, read up on the latest investment and saving schemes and always think twice before making a purchase. Being in debt is bad but what is worse is how it changes your opportunities and also the way people perceive you.

While wallowing in self-pity isn’t a solution, learning from your past mistakes and not making them in the future will help you lead a financially secure life.

Tips For Lowering The Cost Of Car Ownership

green car

Pic Credit; Unsplash

Owning a car is not a cheap expense. In fact, it’s one of those expenses that can often end up costing quite a bit, whether it’s bought outright or put on finance.

Think of cars as a money pit, whether it’s a passion of yours to buy cars or not. It’s something that can be expensive but can be done more affordably with the right approach. With that in mind, here are some tips for lowering the cost of car ownership in 2022.

Buy used

While buying new cars has it’s benefits, there are also benefits to buying used cars. For example, they’ll end up costing a lot less overall to purchases and they can often be cheaper to run, especially when it comes to insurance premiums that need paying.

Consider whether it’s worth buying a new car if it’s something you’ve wanted for a while. If you’re not necessarily fussed by the type of car you have, buy a used one instead. Other benefits of used cars include minimal depreciation and reliability on the road.

Only use the car when it’s absolutely necessary

To help with lowering the cost of car ownership, only use the car when it’s absolutely necessary. It’s important that a car is only used when it’s needed, rather than using it excessively when it could be that those journeys are done with alternative transport.

Filling a car up with fuel is expensive and with the price of fuel going up, it’s definitely worth prioritizing the car for essential trips only. Taking care of your car is so important from simple things like getting a car cover for snow if you live in an area prone to heavy snow fall.

Avoid too many long trips

In order to save money, try to limit the number of long trips that you go on when it comes to you and the family. The cost of filling the tank for long journeys is expensive and it might be worthwhile to save your money during trips where it can be saved.

Not every journey is essential so try to pick and choose what trips you decide to go on and what ones you do via other modes of transport.

Keep an eye on car performance

Car performance is important because it’s easy to let a problem go unnoticed and then for it to cost an arm and a leg when it comes to its MOT service. Car servicing is something you should do every time you spot something that’s not quite right. Whether it’s the feel of the drive or how it sounds, pay attention to anything unusual.

Shop around for good insurance coverage

It’s always good to be on the lookout for the best insurance coverage possible. After all, you want to provide the right amount of coverage that is going to keep you and your family safe while on the road. With used cars, for example, insurance is going to be cheaper. This is something worth noting when shopping for cars.

Lowering the cost of car ownership is something that’s definitely worth doing when it comes to saving money on monthly household expenses. Take these tips on board, to save money this year!
