Sure, we may have just entered November. But the holidays are just around the corner, and the sooner you start preparing, the sooner you’ll be able to let your hair down, relax and actually enjoy the festivities! Organisation is key at this time of year and can save you a lot of time, money and stress down the line. So, what steps should you start taking now to make this the most wonderful time of year for you and your family? Here are some suggestions that will help you along the way!

Shop Black Friday

Black Friday falls on November 26th this year, so start thinking about what gifts and other items you’d like to buy in the sales now. This will give you time to come up with a list, price check products from different retailers and to know exactly where to look to grab bargains when the sales and discounts begin. Failing to prepare could mean items selling out before you even find them on offer. The majority of retailers and Christmas wholesale stores will offer some sort of discount at this time and you can save a lot if you manage to hit the big bargains!

Plan Your Food

A lot of our holidays revolve around food. Dinner parties with friends, festive treats and snacks, and, of course, large meals with family. So, you may want to start planning what food you will need to order – and for when – before the end of the month. This will allow you to come up with a shopping list and to check it, preventing those last minute, panicked runs to the store to pick up bits and pieces you forgot. From something as large and central as a turkey to smaller items, like condiments, cranberry sauce and more, you should plan your food down to the last morsel. It may be a good idea to start purchasing items that keep now too.

Prepare Your Home

Sure, we all love to put decorations up. But you’re going to want to work with a good, blank canvas. This means decluttering and deep cleaning your house before you get started with the decorating process. Take a look at all of your belongings and determine which you actually use and which have sentimental or genuine decorational value. If an item doesn’t tick any of these boxes, you can sell, donate or recycle it. Make sure that there’s ample storage for any remaining items, so everything has its place. Once everything is clear and tidy, it’s time to deep clean. Tackle all of the usual chores, plus the jobs that often get swept under the carpet, such as carpet cleaning or cleaning the skirting boards.

While it may feel early to start preparations now, getting ahead of the game will really make all the difference this year. Beat the crowds, prep your home and you’ll be good to go! Small steps making a big difference and can lighten the load throughout December.
