What Is The Safest Flooring Option For Your Home?

When choosing your flooring, there’s often a factor that gets overlooked – safety. If your house is full of adults, it makes sense that you’d skip this factor or not pay it much attention. After all, you’d like to think that a house full of adults won’t run into any problems!

However, if you have young kids, the flooring suddenly becomes a risk. As such, you have to take the safety of your flooring into account. You need something that doesn’t present slip risks, isn’t going to cause too much pain if fallen on, yet still looks nice. It’s quite the conundrum, but these are probably the safest flooring options you have:

Luxury Vinyl

Luxury vinyl has a fancy name, and it can certainly look just as fancy too. This flooring type almost mimics other styles but is made from a unique vinyl material. You can get flooring that replicates floorboards without any wood or looks like tiles without the stone/porcelain. 

Consequently, it becomes one of the safest options for a family with young kids. It’s a hard flooring style, but not too hard. If someone fell over on it they would not be in as much pain compared to falling on wood or tiles. It also happens to be slip-resistant, so this minimizes the chances of any accidents!

Resin flooring can be extremely safe for your home. It’s available in a lot of colors, and the main lure is how slip-resistant it is. This is the type of flooring that’s used in a lot of factories and industrial settings. As a result, it’s usually made by a specialist resin flooring company to ensure the surface is very grippy. The only downside is that it is quite hard, so maybe throw down a rug or two in play areas.

Also, it can be hard to get your hands on resin flooring for your home – but not impossible.

For me, this is by far and away the safest flooring option if you have kids at home. It’s almost impossible to slip and fall over on some carpeted flooring. Even if you do, there’s a soft cushiony floor to ease your fall. Carpet burns may be a problem, but your kids have less chance of injuring themselves on carpet than any other flooring option. 

The only drawback is that most other flooring options are a lot better looking and more modern! Still, you can find some lovely contemporary carpet ideas that could look great in your home. Carpet is also the easiest to install and get rid of. So, when your kids grow up, it should be easy to remove the carpet and switch to a more stylish option – if you want to. 

These three options are your safest flooring choices for the home. If safety is the absolute only thing you care about, choose carpet. If you want a blend of style and safety, the other two come into play. Ultimately, the choice is yours, just be careful when choosing flooring for a home with young children in.

Lapland in the summer time – Midnight Sun

Its no secret we totally fell in love with Lapland, the people, the culture, the scenery, its just spectacular.

We have been in 2018 and 2019 and depending on how Covid pans out of the coming months we are planning to return in 2021. I think we leave a bit of our hearts there each time. The kids are lucky enough to have seen a lot of the world but Lapland (Rovaniemi) is the only place we have returned to a second and hopefully a third time. That’s saying something.

For some tips on Lapland on a budget – I have written this post and I also have this post on our 2019 trip. Both posts are packed with details on getting to and enjoying all the best that Rovaniemi has to offer.

However, one thing that we have been toying with is to see Lapland in the summer time – to see the Midnight sun. The concept fascinates me.  I saw an email from last week which contained a youtube clip on a 3 day Lapland trip and if this doesnt inspire you to visit and see it for yourself im not sure what will!! Since active seniors are happy and healthy seniors, services and programs tend to range from physical activities like swimming and yoga to day trips, excursions, and enrichment programs designed to encourage involvement and appeal to the interests of each resident. Many communities even recognize the importance and health benefits of allowing residents to bring along their pets. These benefits include fewer symptoms of depression, reduced stress, a greater sense of self-worth, and decreased heart rate and blood pressure. Some communities even have dedicated staff to assist with the care of residents’ furry friends when needed.

As we mentioned earlier, there are services assisted living communities do not include. They aren’t the same as nursing homes. This means they don’t include full-time care from specially trained medical staff. While nursing home facilities are licensed by Medicare and Medicaid, with a focus on short-term rehabilitation or long-term medical care, assisted living communities generally are not. Therefore, they don’t typically have their expenses covered by these entities, but you can always discuss financial options when touring.

Memory Care Communities

Some assisted living communities also have special licensing to provide memory care communities. These are usually designated floors, wings, or buildings of the community specifically tailored to benefit residents who have diagnoses like Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Their programs are designed to increase the overall quality of life for these seniors, while reducing stress and agitation. Whether you are building a new house or need to replace a boiler, you will have to install a new one sometime. When you start shopping around for a new boiler, you will have to choose between oil, gas, or an electric one. Gas and oil boilers are the more cost-effective options among the three, so you might end up choosing between the two. To help you make the better option, here is a comparison of the two.

Looking after your teeth – some tips

I love that phrase “smile and the whole world will smile with you“. A nice smile really is something we all strive for. I know for myself personally I have had a long journey to achieving my own perfect smile after years of avoiding photographs and not smiling. This has totally changed once I got my teeth straightened. I thought it would be useful to compile the tips I gleaned into one post as it might help others. Please do bear in mind, I am not a dentist, im simply sharing the information I gleaned on my own new smile journey. Always consultant a dentist or similar specialist if in doubt.

  • Brush you teeth at least morning and evening and not aggressively or don’t over brush!
  • Brush your tongue too! Yes this is actually a thing – see healtline for more on this.
  • Use a good quality fluoride toothpaste and mouth wash. Over the years there has been debate about fluoride both good and bad however the American Dental Association  advocates its usefulness in terms of teeth and gum health and in fighting cavities.
  • Floss….do not underestimate the importance of flossing, even for younger kids too. Get them into good habit of regular flossing
  • Avoid smoking, too much caffeine and limit sugar filled drinks and snacks
  •  Try to limit acid based foods that could potentially damage enamel
  • Aim to visit your dentist for a check up at least once a year and one thing I try to do is take my kids to get them into good oral hygiene practice

I do love the look of the celebrity style perfectly white, straight teeth however the fear of the drill and the caps was too much!

I think from here on in my plan is prevention is better than cure. I do make a conscious effort to take good care of my teeth as naturally as we get older the enamel begins to wear and the more yellow dentine will show through and unfortunately no amount of bleaching or whitening can rectify this.  By taking on board some of the tips above hopefully his might help.  However as I said above I am not expert merely sharing what I learned over the years.
